BLAAAAAAAAAACK!
BLAAAAAAAAAACK!
BLAAAAAAAAAACK! Ditched the sunvisor on the rear, reapplied it on the fronts.
I just ordered a new door off Amazon for $105, already in the correct color, so I can dispense with the dent. The passenger side pillar spray seems to be a bit shinier than the driver , but it was the same rattle can. Need to redo it anyway, once I get the new door on.
I’ve gone around the entire body of the car getting rid of the really bad rattlecan job one of the previous owners did on the scratches and nicks. He not only had terrible overspray and it was put on too thick, but it was the wrong color silver, and he didn’t use any kind of clearcoat on top. I taught myself how to rattlecan with the correct color and clearcoat last week. I’ll probably do that sometime next week.
Planning to put this front end on, ordered off of Amazon:
As well as other parts, like a new fender and hood, because it’s cheaper than dent repair. Then I’ll get some 98-2000 era red emblems for my hood and hatch.
Generally each part is roughly about $100. Not too shabby.
Oh, and I resprayed the hatch interior, and I’m planning to put in new carpeting and a false floor.
Eventually all of this will be rolled into one big post on the front page for Jalopnik East.

Nice. How are Japanese apartment complexes attitudes on car repairs in the parking lot compared to the in the US?
Some places in the US would have fined you for what you did, if this was all done in your parking space.

My understanding is as long as you don’t make a mess, it’s fine. Although they’ve moved out, I had some neighbors with Toyota SUVs who worked on stuff all the time. I think they draw the line at fluid changes though, because they’re afraid of what runoff might do to the asphalt.
Also, we have more parking spaces than apartments. There’s an unnumbered corner spot where everyone does their work, far away from the other cars. I reparked when I took pictures, but I did the work in the spot next to where you can see the blue bucket. That’s my bucket.

Wow, that’s surprising lenient. I would have figured that a country as clean as Japan, a car on jack-stands in a apartment parking lot would be heavily frowned upon.
You can’t even change a flat yourself some places in the US. Although I suspect it has more to do with the complex getting kickbacks from a towing company than it does the landlords caring about people working on their cars.
Fluid changes I can see being an issue.
Do the Japanese make jokes about “overnighting parts from the US” like we do in reference to The Fast and The Furious?

Japan actually allows a lot of stuff that you might otherwise be surprised at. Largely because part of Japanese socialisation is being responsible for your own behavior. Self-policing and small-group policing is really, really embedded here. It’s one of the reasons why I prefer living here. If I don’t make a mess, and you don’t make a mess, and we make sure to remind each other not to make a mess, no one ruins it for everyone else.
Not really, no. Except for maybe those American muscle enthusiasts? I dunno. We have Up Garage and I-Parts, so there’s not really any reason to overnight stuff... And Autobacs has a ton of stuff new.

Mask more! Overspray travels at least a few feet (and in the wind will end up on anything you can see).

I think the black b-pillar makes the biggest difference.

Nice masking job, but why not just pull the wipers to paint them? Though I have had some wipers that were a real bitch to get off.

so worth while. I’ve done a thousand tiny things to my civic this year, and by far the most satisfying was repainting the wiper arms black. I would just look down everyday, during every drive, and see those flakey bits with silver shining through it and would bring such sadness.

I dig the side vents, I think that’ll make a big difference visually

I’ve had 3 feet of over spray in my garage, aND I was being neat with it. I’m surprised she didn’t take the wipers off.

I was looking at the windshield picture...hope that stuff was covered but if not might be worth looking under good light and picking up any stray mist with a clay bar.

I’d be happy to send you the original art. I didn’t want to put my e-mail on the FP so that’s why I’m replying here.
